Description of the Program
The Early Learning Center’s curriculum supports developmentally appropriate practices in all classrooms. Our goal is to help your child function in a group social and learning setting while still meeting the individual needs of each child. The curriculum incorporates the following areas:
The center is accredited by the United Methodist Association of Preschools. The high standards of this organization require a safe and nurturing environment which promotes physical, social, emotional, intellectual and spiritual development of young children. We are also licensed by the Broward County Department of Children and Families (license #46371). The Early Learning Center is open from 7am to 6pm at 285 ne 2nd st. on the Pompano Beach campus of Christ Church. The Interim Director is Tane Bonham, who can be reached by email.
Your child will be placed in the class where we feel that he or she will fit best and be challenged academically, emotionally and physically.
The Infant Program, for babies from 6 weeks to about 15 months of age, provides a clean, safe and loving environment where babies’ physical and emotional needs are met. There are 2 infant rooms; one is for our youngest infant’s age 6 weeks to approximately 5 – 6 months. Our creeper room is geared for babies aged 6 months to approximately 15 months. Babies begin to learn social skills and play with a variety of age appropriate toys.
The Toddler Program, for children about 16 – 26 months, offers opportunities for children who can walk and are developmentally ready to begin to learn more social skills, language, and independence. We foster exploration and self-help skills, such as, feeding themselves, drinking from a cup and helping to put away toys.
The Two Year Old Program, for children 2 to 3 years of age, provides an environment where children interact with others in the group and begin learning songs and finger plays. They learn to use crayons, playdoh and puzzles as well as playing creatively with toys indoors and outdoors. These children participate in our physical education program, choir and chapel.
The Preschool Program, for 2, 3 and 4 year-olds is taught by certified and experienced teachers. These children learn language skills, mathematic concepts, science, social studies, music, art, health and safety. They have chapel time, choir and physical education scheduled each week. They learn to cooperate, take responsibility and have concern for others. Evaluations are used to assess each child’s needs and progress. Parent conferences are encouraged at all levels when the parents or teacher desire. Afternoons include rest time, story time, large motor development, and facilitated center time.
