Pastor Monique McBride
Monique is the pastor for schools and families.
Her journey into the ministry began when she was in college at the University of Florida, earning a bachelor's degree in English Literature, specializing in children's literature.  While in college, she felt God calling her into children and family ministry.  This passion guided her to pursue ordained ministry in the United Methodist Church, and she eared a Master of Divinity with a specialization in Christian Education.  After seminary, Monique served as minister of Christian education and family ministries at Trinity United Methodist Church in Gainesville for seven years.
In 2012, she and her husband Ryan moved to Fort Lauderdale, where she served at First United Methodist Church of Fort Lauderdale as minister of discipleship and chaplain to the preschool. The McBrides have two sons, Teddy and Matt.
Who inspires you?
My husband Ryan inspires me.  There is no one I know with a bigger heart or more patience.  Plus, he makes some mean fish tacos!
What is your favorite Scripture verse or passage?
It’s a tie.  Proverbs 3:5-6 and Deuteronomy 6:4-9.
What was your childhood ambition?
As I child, I wanted to be just like my mom.  My mom had a way of loving others without any regard for herself.  She knew no stranger and had a gift of putting others at ease and making people feel at home in her presence.  Never idle, she was always doing special little things to make the ordinary seem extraordinary.  It has been over six years since she passed away.  Yet, her memory is still alive and well in the special things I do for the boys and the traditions she began when I was a little girl.
What was your first job?

Babysitting… lots of babysitting.  In my high school years, I interned with the youth department my home church, First UMC Coral Springs.
What is your favorite TV show?
Fixer Upper on HGTV.   I love the character of old homes and thrift store finds.  I’ve been known to rescue chairs and dressers off the side of the road and give them “some love” with a coat of paint and new hardware.  I also love to cook and watch shows on Food Network and Cooking Channel.  My current favorite cooking show is Dinner at Tiffani’s.  Lots of delicious meal ideas and fun celebrity guests from some of my favorite early nineties TV shows.  What’s not to like?
What do you enjoy doing for fun in your free time?

I can usually be found browsing Pinterest for the latest ministry project, craft idea or healthy or not so healthy recipe.  I also love hot yoga, watching a movie with my boys and enjoying a good cup of coffee or tea.
What would a perfect day be for you?
A perfect day for me would have to include sitting by the pool and/or beach with a good book, cooking a nice dinner for my friends and family and watching Ryan and our boys laugh and play together.
What are your favorite characteristics of Christ?

Jesus showed grace and love to all people in a tender yet firm way.  He welcomed everyone into God’s love story and redefined what it meant to live a life of faith including both the love of God and the love of neighbor.  As the daughter of a Rabbi’s son and Christian mom, I also love the way Jesus redefined the traditions of the faith and used what the people knew to teach his message.
